| Steam Cleaning or ChemDry... What's the difference? This is one of the most frequently asked questions by my new clients. In short, steam cleaning, or hot water extraction, utilizes water based chemicals pre-sprayed on your carpet, then rinsed using high pressure "steam". At the same time a powerful vacuum extracts the soils and oils and takes them out of your house. ChemDry utilizes either solvent or water based cleaners pre-sprayed onto your carpet, then an absorbent pad or "bonnet" is used with a buffer to absorb the soils and oils. There is no rinsing or vacuum, therefore you must vacuum after it is dry. It commonly leaves a residue in your carpet that can attract dirt very rapidly. This can happen with steam cleaning as well if the cleaning technician does not rinse well. Both methods can be used effectively in certain situations. Carpet manufacturers prefer steam cleaning, in fact your warranty may be void if you use any other method. |
